YPERIA - 9th Int. Meeting of Culture and Tourism

From 27 of April to 2 of May 2011 the 9th International Meeting of Culture and Tourism, YPERIA 2011 will take place at the at Aegialis Hotel & Spa in Aegiali. The convention is organized for the 9th continuous year by the Women’s Cultural Association of  Tholaria in cooperation with Aegialis Hotel & Spa.

Amorgos Island Magazine will present their geocaching concept on the conference.

    • Visit to an Amorgian house.
    • Tour of the village to meet with the Amorgian architecture.
  • 12.30 Lunch in the main square of Lagada. Traditional tastes of Amorgos prepared by local restaurants. Traditional dances by local folklore group.
  • Return to the Hotel.

  • 9.15 Departure to Tholaria Village. Visit to the Church of the village, and the Church Museum. Where now Tholaria village is, used to be the ancient Aegiali. Speech in the church yard about the ancient Aegiali – Tour of the village.
  • Introduction to the traditional local dances.
  • Transfer to Ag. Pavlos beach by coach and passing across with small boats to the small island of Nikouria, where in the ancient years was the mint of Aegiali.
  • Speech about the ancient coins of Amorgos. Narrating of pirate’s legends, by Mr.Antonis Vlavianos, architect-journalist.
  • Ouzo in the church yard of Virgin Mary in Nikouria.
  • 14.00-Lunch in Ormos at “Kostaras” tavern.
  • Return to the Hotel.

  • 9.45 Departure by bus to the village of Potamos. Visit to the Church of Ascension, towatch the departure of the icon of the Virgin Chozoviotissa, to return to the monastery on foot on the old path Aegiali – Chora. If someone wants to follow, this is a 4 hourswalk.
  • 11.00 Visit to Asfodilitis, where the stone walls are nominated as UNESCO monument.
    • Presentation of the book “Asfodilitis”, by Mr.Ilias Provopoulos, writer-journalist.
    • Flower collection to make wreaths to welcome May the month of flowers.
    • A small boat tour at Aegialis port.
  • 14.00 Lunch in the bay, compliments of the Restaurant “To Limani” of Mrs. Katina.
  • Return to the Hotel.
  • 16.00-18.00 Film projections
  • 18.00-18.30 Coffee Break
  • 18.30 Wine tasting and demonstrations of local cooking.
  • 19.30 Jury of Film Festival for the results and awards. Projection of best films.
